Xbox One repair
Xbox One, One S and One X: no picture, no power, disc drives, hard drives and overheating.

What goes wrong
The Xbox One family has a well-known weakness in its HDMI circuit. On the One S and One X in particular, the small chip behind the HDMI socket fails, leaving a black screen on a console that sounds perfectly normal.
The original Xbox One uses an external power brick, which fails more often than the console. The One S and One X moved the power supply inside. Hard drives in all three are now old enough to be failing, which shows as very slow loading or start-up errors.
Repairs
No picture
HDMI socket and HDMI chip replacement.
No power
Power brick testing on the original model, internal supply and board repair on the S and X.
Hard drive
Replacement of failing drives, with an SSD if you want faster loading.
Disc drive
Not reading, grinding or refusing discs. The original drive board is kept.
Overheating
Cleaning and new thermal paste, which the One X in particular benefits from.
Your saves and data
Saves on Xbox One are synchronised to the cloud automatically when the console is online, so they survive a dead console or a replaced hard drive.
A replacement drive is prepared with the system software, and your games are downloaded again from your account. If the console was never online, tell us, because its saves then exist only on that drive.
Sending a console
- Take out any disc or game card, and remove memory cards you want to keep at home.
- Send the console itself and its power lead. Controllers are only needed if they are part of the fault.
- Box it with at least 5cm of padding on every side. The original box alone is not enough protection.
- Add a note with your name, phone number and what the console does. Include your sign-in PIN if one is set.
We collect by insured courier from anywhere in the UK, or you can bring it to the workshop in London SE1. Every repair starts with a free assessment and a fixed price, and carries a 3-month warranty. See console repair prices and how the courier service works.
Common questions
Can the hard drive be replaced with an SSD?
Yes. It shortens loading times noticeably on all three models.
The console turns on then off straight away. What is that?
Usually a power or overheating fault. On the original model, try to note the colour of the light on the power brick.
