What we repair on Macs

MacBooks are built differently from most Windows laptops. Batteries are glued into the top case, keyboards are riveted in place, and on recent models the storage is part of the logic board. Repairs take the right tools and parts, and a clear idea of what is and is not possible on each model.

We repair faults at the level they occur. A MacBook that will not charge or start after a spill often needs a few components replaced on the logic board, not a whole new board.

Worth knowing before you send a Mac

Have your Apple ID and password to hand. They are needed if macOS has to be reinstalled.
Back up with Time Machine if the Mac still starts. On models with soldered storage, a dead logic board means the files cannot simply be copied off the drive.
MacBooks made between 2016 and 2019 use the low-travel "butterfly" keyboard. A failed one is replaced along with the top case.
iMacs are heavy and their screens are exposed. Contact us before sending one; many customers bring them in.

Are you an Apple Authorised Service Provider?

No. Creative IT is an independent repairer with no affiliation to Apple. That lets us carry out component-level repairs on logic boards.

Can you recover files from a MacBook that will not turn on?

Often. On older MacBooks the drive can be removed and read. On recent ones the logic board has to be repaired far enough to release the data. See data recovery.
