Why the model number matters

The make alone is not enough to quote for a repair. A manufacturer may sell dozens of different laptops under one family name in a single year, each with its own screen, battery and board.

The full model number is on a label underneath the laptop or printed on the base. On a laptop that still starts, you can also press Windows + R, type msinfo32 and read the System Model line. Each make page below shows exactly where to look.
