PlayStation 5 repair
PS5, PS5 Slim and PS5 Pro: HDMI ports, no power, overheating, disc drives and storage.

What goes wrong
The most common PS5 repair by a distance is the HDMI port. The socket is soldered to the motherboard and is damaged when the cable is knocked or the console is moved while plugged in. The console powers on, the light turns white, and the TV shows nothing.
The PS5 also uses liquid metal instead of ordinary thermal paste between the processor and the heatsink. It cools well, but it has to be handled correctly whenever the console is opened, and a console that overheats or shuts down may need it renewed.
Repairs
HDMI port
The damaged socket is removed and a new one soldered to the board. Related chips are checked if the picture does not return.
No power
Power supply and motherboard faults are traced and repaired at component level.
Overheating and shutdowns
Dust is cleared, the fan checked and the liquid metal and its seal renewed.
Disc drive
Discs not accepted, not read or not ejected. The drive is repaired, keeping the original drive board that is matched to the console.
USB ports
Front and rear USB-C and USB-A sockets are replaced.
Storage
An M.2 SSD can be fitted in the expansion slot. The built-in storage is part of the motherboard.
Your saves and data
The PS5's built-in SSD is soldered to the motherboard and encrypted, so it cannot be read outside the console. If the console is dead, the saves on it are recovered by repairing the console.
PlayStation Plus subscribers have cloud saves, which are untouched by any hardware fault. PS4 game saves can also be copied to a USB drive, but PS5 game saves cannot, so cloud backup is the only safety net for those.
Sending a console
- Take out any disc or game card, and remove memory cards you want to keep at home.
- Send the console itself and its power lead. Controllers are only needed if they are part of the fault.
- Box it with at least 5cm of padding on every side. The original box alone is not enough protection.
- Add a note with your name, phone number and what the console does. Include your sign-in PIN if one is set.

Common questions
My PS5 turns on but there is no picture. Is it the HDMI port?
Most often, yes. Try another cable and TV first. If the light goes from blue to white and stays white with no picture, the port is the likely cause.
Will I lose my games and saves when it is repaired?
No. An HDMI, power or cooling repair does not touch the storage.
